The women’s team had their highest finish ever at the Intercollegiate Team Championships in Wichita, Kansas on April 16-19, 2008. The team consisted of Jamie Bormann, Cassondra Desmonds, Lisa Hunt, Kara Bunting, Jen Aschenbrenner, Ashley Bear, and Erin Peiguss. Along the way the Lady Boilers defeated McKendree University and Morehead State University before getting beat by eventual runners-up, Wichita State University setting up a rematch between Purdue and Morehead State to determine the winner of the contenders’ bracket. They put up a valiant effort to try to make it to the 6th round and second day of match play; unfortunately, they fell short in the 5th round losing to Moorhead State University (4-1). The loss gave the Purdue ladies a 5th place finish at the national competition. The men’s team had their highest finish since 2002, showing they are still a national contender. The team comprised of Collin Kerschner, Dan Borne, Ryan Stankiewicz, Chris Seyffarth, Luke Matthys, Kyle Wiedman, Adam Witte, and Ryan Slosser was stopped by the undefeated University of Nevada Las Vegas (4-2) in the second day of match play. Taking it to the second day gave the Boiler men a 3rd place finish at the national competition. The Purdue men were beat 4-0 by Pikeville College in the first round before going on a run to defeat #1 seeded William Patterson, Vincennes University, and Pikeville College, in a rematch to determine the winner of the contenders’ bracket. Scott Savage was the recipient of the Kerm Helmer Women's Coach of the Year. Upon acceptance of his award he cordially thanked all of his coaching staff including Melissa Savage (assistant women’s coach) and Doug Wiedman (assistant men’s coach) for their outstanding contributions to the Purdue program. Noting it would not have been possible without their help and support. Both members and coaches are excited about competing next year. In the off season physical and mental training will help keep players on edge for competition in the 2008-2009 school year. Tryouts for the team will start on August 30th, 2008 and will be a two week process. Tryouts are open to anyone attending Purdue University as a full-time undergraduate or part-time graduate student.
